Yes - you should never be out of pocket when applying for a role with us. If the role requires a disclosure check, we cover the cost so you don’t have to.
For most of our entry-level Support Worker roles, you don’t need prior experience. What matters most are your personal qualities: a caring, empowering approach and a willingness to learn!
Yes. As part of our commitment to inclusion, we guarantee interviews for candidates who have a disability and meet the minimum criteria for the role.
Yes! We think it’s important that candidates visit the service to meet the team and the people they may support. It’s equally important for the people we support. People should always have the chance to meet the team who may support them, so the person can decide if they feel like a good fit.
To keep everyone safe, we carry out several checks during onboarding, including:
- Full employment history
- References
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Criminal record checks (DBS in England or PVG in Scotland)
- Health questionnaire
Some roles do require you to drive and hold a full UK driving licence for insurance purposes. If driving is essential or desirable, this will be clearly stated in the job advert. Where driving is desirable, you may not need your own vehicle – many of the people we support have their own cars which our colleagues drive.
We pride ourselves on giving candidates the very best experience. We want the whole process to feel positive, supportive and straightforward.
A dedicated member of our team will support you from the moment you apply right through to your first day – there will always be someone available to help.
Once you’ve submitted your application and completed the additional questions, if you meet the criteria, you’ll be contacted for a short telephone conversation to learn a bit more about you. From there, we’ll arrange an interview – usually face-to-face in the service or department you’ve applied to. Sometimes we begin with a virtual interview, followed by an in-person visit.
If you and the team feel it’s a good match, our Welcome Team will take over and guide you through your onboarding checks.
Timelines can vary and some checks, like DBS processing, are outside our control – but please be assured we’ll do everything we can to get you started as quickly as possible.
Absolutely. If you let us know in your application what adjustments might help, we can put reasonable adjustments in place to support you throughout the recruitment process. Your Recruitment Specialist will be happy to work with you on this.
Most Scotland-based roles require SSSC registration within your first 6 months – we ask you to apply within your first 3 months as it can take up to 60 days to process. The annual fee is your responsibility, though registration is transferrable so it stays with you wherever you work.
Registration also requires a relevant qualification – for Support Workers that’s SCQF Level 6 (SVQ 2) as a minimum. If you don’t have this, we’ll support you to complete it through our own SVQ Assessment Centre and can help fund or cover the cost. For more information visit sssc.uk.com.
